Last week, a Ribbon Cutting/Dedication was held for the new Kiwanis Kid Zone at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. The Kid Zone includes a playground plus a mini-splashpad.
The project brought many different groups together to make it happen according to a release from the city. The groups include the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District which helped put the matching grant proposal together and later helped execute it once it was granted by the The Arkansas Department of Heritage, Parks & Tourism in the amount of $150,000. The Kiwanis Club matched $100,000 of the grant with the remainder coming from the city.
The playground hours will follow the times of other city park facilities from dawn until dusk though it will remain open during times the complex is hosting baseball and softball tournaments. The mini-splashpad will remain open until the weather cools down in the next few weeks, then will reopen in next May.
