Terrell Barnes pleaded guilty June 25 to first-degree assault and first-degree robbery. He received a 10-year prison sentence for the two charges. A charge of armed criminal action was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
The shooting happened Dec. 15, 2022, near a salon on West Grand Street. Springfield police responded after receiving several reports of gunfire and found a woman who had been shot in the face.
The woman survived but required multiple medical procedures. Investigators also found dozens of shell casings outside the business.
According to court records, officers reviewed surveillance footage, interviewed witnesses and monitored an SUV believed to have been used by the shooter. Investigators ultimately identified Barnes as the vehicle’s driver and took him into custody in February 2023.
Barnes was also linked to a home invasion and robbery that occurred four days before the salon shooting. Two armed men allegedly approached two people who were working on a vehicle inside a garage and demanded access to their safes.
The suspects reportedly searched the safes and took one victim’s phone. Investigators said Barnes’ vehicle was recorded outside the home at the time of the robbery.
