A one-night only interactive midnight screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show is coming to Branson this Halloween weekend.
The doors to the Reza Live Theater will open at 11 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, and the show will begin at midnight. Event Organizer Blayne Horn explained how their interactive screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show differs from what audiences would experience in a traditional movie cinema.
“There will be interactive props for audience members that have VIP tickets or that purchase them,” Horn said. “There will also be what’s called a shadow cast where people come out dressed as the characters for some of the more iconic scenes.”
Traditionally, Horn said she attends a local screening of the film on her birthday, but when she discovered there wouldn’t be any midnight showings this year on November 1, she took matters into her own hands by getting the licensing to host a screening of the film herself.
For fans who have never experienced an interactive screening, Horn encouraged them to come and fall in love with the movie all over again.
“Everybody was once a first-time viewer of an interactive screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show,” Horn said. “While it is super fun for the true culties, who know all the lines and who know all the cues, everybody had to have their first time where they came and had no idea what was going on and fell in love.”
With the recent death of Actor Tim Curry, who starred as the film’s lead Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Horn added this screening will be a special one for Rocky Horror fans.
“With the passing of Tim Curry, we knew that people would be emotionally attached to that,” Horn said. “No one’s ever done one of these screenings in Branson before, but locally there has been a ton of success with doing these screenings in Springfield. So much success that the Gillioz sells out every single year. So, we wanted to be able to have one that was a little closer to home and to see, you know, if people would be as radical about it here as they are in some of the other cities that are doing it nationwide.”
Horn said they’re also encouraging audiences to dress up in their best Rocky Horror Picture Show cosplay or this year’s Halloween costume for a costume contest. Horn said those cosplaying characters from the movie may earn themselves a couple of extra bonus points with the judges of their costume contest; the winner of which will receive more than $400 in prizes.
In addition to the screening and the costume contest, Blacksheep Tattoo will be on site doing live flash tattoos and Branson Walkers will have walking tacos available for purchase. Tickets to the show are $10 for general admission and $40 for VIP admission per person. Tickets are being sold online in advance.
