Five Boone County fire departments responded to a residential structure fire on Sunday, November 1.
The Bergman Volunteer Fire Department reports a property owner called their station landline on Sunday reporting his home was full of smoke, but he couldn’t locate any flames. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found flames coming from the front door area of a mobile home, according to a release from the department.
In response to the fire, a call for mutual aid was made and Harrison, Harmon, Cottonwood and Lead Hill fire departments all responded to the scene. In a separate release, Harmon Fire shared the mutual aid call came in to them at around 11:28 a.m. and they responded to the scene with one tanker, one engine and three personnel.
Berman shared the Harrison fire crew remained with them throughout the incident and even remained behind afterward to help their crews prepare for the next call. They said without the help of these agencies; the fire could have been much worse.
“For our county residents who have friends and family who vote in the City of Harrison, please share how much their fire department means to surrounding communities. The resources they support inside the city also make a difference when their firefighters answer calls alongside us in the county,” Bergman Fire said in the release. “Working together on incidents like this also gives crews valuable firsthand experience, reinforces their training, and strengthens coordination for emergencies throughout our area—including inside Harrison. Neighbors helping neighbors, that’s what mutual aid is all about. Thank you to every department that answered the call.”
Bergman Fire Department also encouraged area residents to remember to call 911 and not their station’s direct line.
“If you see smoke, suspect a fire, or have an emergency, call 911 immediately,” Bergman Fire said in the release. “Our station landline is not a substitute for 911 and may not always be answered.”
No injuries were reported in the release, and the cause of the fire was not publicized as of press time.
