The Forsyth Board of Aldermen met on Monday, October 19, and discussed potential improvements to Shoals Bend Park on Corner Stone Drive.

They granted approval for HDR Engineering to draft an improvement plan, which will include a complete survey of the property and deal specifically with the basketball and pickleball courts. Once the improvement plan is received the board will revisit this topic.

The proposed Liberty Utilities easement agreement was also on the agenda. Several business owners continue to object to the easement, citing loss of current and future revenue under the current plan. Legal counsel is encouraged for anyone with questions. Further discussion was tabled for a future meeting.

A bill was introduced to reduce the speed limit in the school zone surrounding Forsyth Schools. The school zone includes Coy Boulevard, Panther Street, Gym Road, and Lee Street. The proposed speed limit would be 15 miles per hour during pick-up and drop-off hours while school is in session. The aldermen will take the bill into advisement before a decision is made.

The board is seeking seven to nine community members, including high school students, to work on an updated comprehensive plan for the city. The current comprehensive plan went into place in 2011. The new plan will be drafted with the help of Southwest Missouri Council of Governments and will include questionnaires for residents in order to take public comments into consideration. Committee appointments will be made at a later date. Interested parties can contact City Hall.
