Gene Flake, an accomplished theater director, was a guest on Harrison’s Original KHOZ’s Around The Table on October 20. Flake discussed Boys in the Band, a play coming to Inspiration Point Center For the Arts in Eureka Springs as part of the town’s Fall Diversity Weekend.
Originally written in 1968, Boys in the Band was a groundbreaking production for LGBTQ+ actors, featuring gay men as human beings rather than caricatures. Flake noted the play incorporates drama and humor as it portrays a group of friends in New York City.
All proceeds from the show will go to Safe To Be and The Purple Flower. Both organizations advocate for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking, providing resources, housing, and legal advice if necessary.
The play will run Nov. 6-8. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served on opening night. Tickets can be purchased at outineureka.org
