Dr. Mickey Xun has joined the staff at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC) as part of the Claude Parrish Cancer Center.

Xun brings decades of experience in cancer care, hematology, and research to her new position, and will focus on hematology and medical oncology care for patients at NARMC. Other areas of Xun’s experience include targeted therapy, immunotherapy and bio-marker specific treatments, according to a press release from NARMC.

She believes advances in cancer medicine will continue to create opportunities to make treatment increasingly specific to each patient and their disease. Her approach is to treat each patient as an individual with their own unique plan for care based on their diagnosis, needs, and circumstances.

“Cancer affects the whole family, so treatment is tailored to the family as well as the patient,” Xun said in the release.

Xun earned her medical degree from Hunan Medical University and a Master of Science in Immunology from Beijing Medical College. She also completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Kentucky as well as a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. She has practiced in several different medical centers, including more than 15 years in Pittsburg, Kansas.

“I am very excited to have Dr. Xun at our cancer center,” RTI Director Jon Burnside said in the release. “Her extensive experience, expertise, and exceptional skill set will be a tremendous asset to our team and, most importantly, to the patients we serve. I know that everyone from the staff to the patients and their families will be happy as we partner with Dr. Xun.”

Xun was drawn to northwest Arkansas because of the people she encountered while visiting here and the welcoming atmosphere she found in the community. She brings a personal connection to her work, emphasizing open communication and helping patients and families feel comfortable asking questions and understanding their care. In her short time here, Xun has already made a meaningful impact at the Claude Parrish Cancer Center and is currently accepting new patients in Harrison at the main hospital campus, according to the release.
