The Alpena Haunted Hayride is open for guests of all ages this Friday and Saturday.
Event Volunteer Jody Marshall is passionate about bringing the community together through fun and safe events. Marshall and a group of fellow volunteers have been putting on the hayride for six years.
“We try really hard to just do good community fun things for everybody; and not just for the people of Alpena, but all Boone County. And it keeps growing and growing and growing every year,” Marshall said on Harrison’s Original KHOZ’s Around The Table on October 21.
Marshall noted changes and improvements are made to the hayride course each year. This year the entire length of the course, which begins at the Alpena Community Center, is on paved road. A tunnel has also been added.
The hayride is three-quarters of a mile long and volunteers dress up as scary characters from horror films.
Marshall said he believes the hayride is suitable for children.
“It is scary, we’re going to jump out at you. It is not gore,” Marshall said on the show.
The hayride runs the last three weekends in October, and its first weekend this year saw over 300 visitors.
“I went on Saturday. It was so much fun. You will not be disappointed,” Sheila Hellum said on Facebook on October 26.
The hayride is open from 7 to 10 p.m. on October 30 and 31 and tickets are $6 per person. Groups as well as individuals are welcome.
