Branson’s Santa and Mrs. Claus are coming to the big screen in an award-winning documentary.
“Behind the Beard: Making Santa Real” shares the perspective of professionals who play the roles of Santa and Mrs. Claus all year long, according to a press release from Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.
Elizabeth Ruch and Tracy Ruch, entertainers from Branson’s The Claus Vacation, appear in the documentary alongside other full-time Santas, including a YouTube Santa and a 2024 inductee in the International Santa Claus Hall of Fame.
“We are blessed to share a glimpse into our Christmas world,” Elizabeth Ruch said in the release. “While we love taking our ‘vacation’ here in beautiful Branson and visiting with families right in their vacation homes, being part of this documentary allows us to spread that Christmas cheer to audiences everywhere.”
Director Brandon Rice spoke about bringing “Behind the Beard” to Branson.
“Liz and Tracy embody exactly what “Behind the Beard” is about, their desire to bring magic and love to everyone they meet,” Rice said in the release. “I’m thrilled we get to bring the film to Branson for its Missouri Premiere.”
The 75-minute documentary won the Audience Favorite Award at its world premiere at the Riverside International Film Festival.
Branson’s award-winning portrait arist Michaela Patterson of OneShot Photography also provided the B-roll footage from The Claus Vacation that was used in the documentary.
“Behind the Beard: The Making of Santa” will premiere November 1, at 8 p.m. at The Showroom at Branson Meadows. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at www.behindthebeardmovie.com.
