The second opportunity of the year to learn more about the importance of turning in expired and unused prescription drugs is this Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to rid area homes of unwanted medications while informing participants of why getting rid of those drugs are important and ways to do that year round.
“At one point, the CDC reported over 100,000 deaths per year due to substance abuse”, said Marietta Hagan, Project Coordinator for Health Improvement at Cox Health, during an interview on Legends 1063’s “Ozarks Now” program.
Hagan added that while Opioids are the target medication because of their danger, she adds that any medication used improperly can be dangerous.
The event this weekend sponsored by the Taney County ADAPT Coalition and Drug Free Ozarks will have locations at Walgreens in Branson and Hollister, Lakeland Pharmacy in Branson, and a drive-thru location at the Kimberling City Police Department.
Other organizations around the region will also host events. The Harrison Police Department is using the weekend to remind residents of their permanent drop off at City Hall available 24 hours a day and a link to other locations around the state.
Back in Missouri, Nixa Police will hold an event at CVS Pharmacy while Ozark Police will host an event in their facility. Information on other locations available nationwide on the DEA Website.
