Showers and thunderstorms will become widespread across southern Missouri and northern Arkansas today and Friday. Cooler and much drier fall weather follows for the weekend.
The National Weather Service office in Springfield says rain chances are around 80 to 90 percent across parts of southwest Missouri, with temperatures holding in the upper 70s instead of reaching the recent warmer levels. South winds could gust between 20 and 25 mph ahead of the approaching system.
Some areas of northern Arkansas may receive rain later in the day as the front pushes southeast through the region while the rain will move to the northeast along the front.
The rain could be especially beneficial because drought and abnormally dry conditions have been affecting portions of the region.
