The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers claiming to be deputies.
Sheriff Gregg Alexander says scammers are telling people they missed jury duty and must pay a fine or face a warrant. The sheriff stresses that deputies do not call residents demanding payment for missed jury service.
Anyone receiving one of these calls should hang up, avoid sharing personal or financial information, and contact the sheriff’s office to report the incident.
Individuals receiving those calls in other jurisdictions should contact their local law enforcement office to report the call.
