The National Weather Service has extended the Heat Advisory for southern Missouri through Saturday with high temperatures expected to continue to approach 100 and Heat Index readings as high as 110. Northern Arkansas will stay slightly cooler but still see highs in the mid to upper 90s and Heat Index readings at 100 or higher.
Forecasters expect a cold front to make its way to the Lakes Region late Sunday which will increase chances of rain and bring temperatures back down into the 80s beginning the week.
A release from the National Weather Service continues to remind individuals to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Also, take extra precautions when outside including wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing, trying to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening and to take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
