The governor’s proclamation, identified as DR 26-02, says severe storms and flooding struck Arkansas on May 28 and caused dangers, hardships and suffering. It also states that residents and public property were adversely affected and that the two counties require supplemental assistance from the state as they recover from their losses.
Reporting from Ozarks Dynacom News reported major street flooding in Marion County around Flippin while in Searcy County, a National Weather Service report said a person was swept off of a bridge by flood waters. A follow-up report from KTLO in Mountain Home indicated firefighters performed a swift-water rescue and pulled the woman off of a tree.
The disaster declaration provides a formal basis for Arkansas to assist residents in the counties with recovery from the May storms. The governor specifically cited the need for supplemental assistance from the state in issuing the order.
